Eat Well, Eat Wisely
by Catherine Bradford
A recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed that Coloradans take the lead in being the slimmest state in the nation. While that is commendable most of us still need to watch our diets and adopt healthier eating habits. Here are some quick tips to help you control your weight, eat well and stay healthy. You’ll probably save money as well!

•    Clear out your kitchen — be ruthless and get rid of anything that could be classified as junk food. Open up those cupboards and THROW AWAY anything that doesn’t feed your mind, body and spirit!

•    Shop only in the outside aisles of the grocery store where most of the healthiest food is located. The interior aisles are stocked with items that contribute little or nothing to your health or well being.

•    Eat with the seasons. If it is out of season it has to be trucked in from somewhere else. By perpetuating this year-round supply of everything, we support the use of pesticides and food preservatives. Learn what grows in your own area and make every attempt to buy foods in season raised by local farmers.

•    Eat what you want when you are hungry. If you pay attention to the signals your body sends you, you’ll be well fed and be able to maintain your energy throughout the day. Tuning into what your body wants curbs overeating and rebalances both mind and body.
