As Spring Blossoms Into Summer…
by Joan King
“How much did you make last year? How many new clients do you have? Did you get that promotion? Are your children going to the best schools? Are your children getting all A’s in school?” In a society focused on measures and comparisons we are likely to ignore true reality which lies unseen and immeasurable. How can you measure your potential for growth, yearning for wholeness, willingness to embrace the pain of others, desire to contribute to the good of others and joy in love?
Spring, a beacon signaling the appearance of the unseen, invites us to remember the promise of renewal. Summer confirms its reality. The cells of our bodies continually reverberate with the vitality of renewal. Every minute of every day our cells are renewing themselves. Animals birth their young in the spring. In a larger dimension, stars appear and large clusters of stars and galaxies continue to form throughout the heavens. Every day is a cycle of birth and renewal — the message rings loudly from all dimensions of the microcosm and macrocosm, humming the energy of vibrant existence. Spring and summer confirm the wonder of the mystery of life, as we witness the unseen coming forth into the observable world.

What is calling out to you for birth or renewal? Is it your…
• Sense of your own greatness?
• Faith in the greatness of others?
• Willingness to make decisions based on the unseen reality?
• Commitment to love?
• Involvement in community?

Have you become disheartened because someone has disappointed you, displayed their weakness or corrupted your faith in them? Or has this happened within yourself? Perfection eludes us; it is not our heritage. On the other hand, birth and renewal are. Spring and summer liberate us from the illusion of attaining perfection. It is unimportant. What is important is the releasing of the fullness of ourselves, the richness of our being, imperfections included, into this world. Failure, feared by most, does not reflect lack, but rather reflects our willingness to stretch beyond the known. Often, failure is a prelude to success.

The energy of birth and renewal underlies all reality.
How do we focus on the reality of the unseen, the promise of spring and summer, while living in a world steeped in commanding chaos? How do we escape the enticement of the immediate? Sometimes we are shaken, transported into the depth of the unseen world by an event: the unforeseen death of a loved one, the loss of our home by fire or storm, the announcement of a spouse requesting a divorce or traumatic illness. Other times we are awakened to uncharted dimensions by wondrous events. Someone expresses love for us, unexpectedly, openly and genuinely. We recognize the gifts someone has bestowed upon us. We touch the wonder of the mystery of life. The memory of these events, less imposing than the pressing urgency of meeting immediate responsibilities, fades. We forget the contact we have had with the immediacy of the unknown, the unseen, real world.
How do we in ordinary life, not confronted with extraordinary challenges or revelations, transcend the immediate to connect with the reality underlying the observable?

What calls you to:
• Focus on the meaning of your life, your purpose for existence?
• Concentrate on seeing the greatness in yourself and others?
• Bring an expansive perspective to problems you and others encounter?
• Transcend the smallness and bask in the greatness of life?
• Appreciate and perform small acts of gratitude?
• Act from an understanding of the reality of the unseen in making daily decisions?

While these thoughts and actions appear mundane, seeing the unseen becomes easier as we practice “seeing” and regularly engaging in these thoughts and actions. We sculpt who we are with every thought that we think and action that we take. Our lives take on deeper and more wondrous dimensions as we develop the capacity to see beyond the seen, to see the promise of spring before it fully blossoms into summer.
Invite the song of spring and summer singing its message of birth and renewal to permeate your being and bring you new perspectives to live the larger life!
